The Government Is Planning To Bring Home 78 Malaysian Citizens Stranded In Wuhan

They will be quarantined for 14 days upon returning to Malaysia.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad just announced that the government is working to evacuate 78 Malaysians who are currently stuck in the Wuhan lockdown

According to New Straits Times, the Prime Minister said that this was decided by the Cabinet after its meeting earlier today, 29 January.

He has appointed Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah to liase with the Chinese government to facilitate the return of these Malaysians.

To ensure that they are not affected by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), Malaysians who return to the country will be quarantined for 14 days before they can go home

Dr Mahathir said, "If they show symptoms they would be quarantined for another 14 days. Only if they are cleared would they be allowed home."

He also added that there are 26 facilities designated by the Ministry of Health that are capable to provide quarantine care for the returning Malaysians.

Malaysia is also looking to help Wuhan by sending food and other essentials that are short in supply, such as gloves and face masks

The Star reported that the Prime Minister said, "If we are allowed to send a flight to pick up Malaysians in Wuhan, then we can send the supplies to the people there."

"We are told that food supply in Wuhan is diminishing and can only last for a few days. We are interested to help the people of Wuhan."
