Pearly Tan Makes History With Record For Fastest Female Badminton Smash In The World
The 23-year-old's smash was recorded to be faster than the speed of a Formula One (F1) car.
Malaysian women's doubles player Pearly Tan officially holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest female badminton smash
The announcement was made in a post on the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)'s Facebook page.
"Our very own Pearly Tan sets a new world record for the fastest female badminton smash with an incredible 438km per hour!" read the post.
Solidifying her name in the record book for the Fastest Badminton Hit (Female) category, the achievement was made at a gymnasium in Yonex Co Ltd Tokyo Factory in Saitama, Japan, on 14 April, and was verified officially by Guinness World Records judges.
Detailing her achievement, it was stated that the 23-year-old's spectacular hit was faster than the speed of a Formula One (F1) car's record of 372.6km per hour
On the same day at the Yonex Factory in Japan, Indian badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy also broke the record for the Fastest Badminton Hit (Male) category alongside Tan, achieving an amazing smash of 565km per hour.
The official Yonex website went on to clarify that the method of impact in the actual smash for both records were captured using a high-speed camera. The instant velocity of the shuttlecock after the impact was then calculated from the photographic recording.
