21 Photos That Explain Why The New MacBook Is Apple's Sexiest Machine Ever

It's the MacBook, with no "Pro" or "Air" or any other suffix! It’s a totally different machine, for a different kind of person. We're in awe! In our 38th Tech Tuesday column, we take a close look at Apple's new MacBook.

Not called MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, Apple's newest notebook is simply called MacBook. And it's the thinnest ever! At less than 1kg and 13.1 millimeters thick, it's 24% thinner than the MacBook Air.

It's almost all battery inside. Or, more accurately, batteries!

It's also the first all-metal MacBook!

There's an all-new keyboard, which spans the full width of the new MacBook. The keyboard features a new "butterfly mechanism" for a better, "much more precise" typing experience.

The keyboard also has individual LED lighting for each key. It's 40% thinner but tries making up for it with keys that are 17% wider.

The trackpad has been redesigned to measure not only finger locations and tap actions, but also force. It can sense the strength of each tap. The harder you push, the different the functionality!

Its new USB-C port is reversible, and it handles power, video, and data transport. The only other port on this gorgeous machine is the headphone jack on the other side.

There's a 12-inch Retina display that runs at 2,304 x 1,440 resolution. It is the thinnest display ever built into a Mac, and that it consumes 30% less energy.

In every way, the new MacBook is a thing of beauty

Everything about the MacBook is about beauty, whether it’s the single USB-C port on the left side—the only port on the entire device save for a headphone jack on the right—or the new Gold, Space Gray, and Silver colors. The Gold is actually much more handsome than gaudy, but the Space Gray is my favorite of the options. It’s dark and sleek, fitting for a device that’s so, so very thin.

The base model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD will cost USD1,299. A 512GB SSD option will cost USD1,599. These new computers ship 10 April.

Apple will offer two standard configurations when the MacBook starts shipping April 10: the $1,299 model arrives with a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor, 8 GB of memory, Intel HD Graphics 5300 and a 256 GB of flash storage. Meanwhile, a $1,599 version bumps the processor up slightly to 1.2 GHz and doubles the storage. For now, customization options appear limited to one: a faster 1.3 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor.

In conclusion, with the new MacBook, Apple clearly indicates that it values form and beauty first and foremost. The MacBook itself feels a bit like the Apple Watch: a beautiful status symbol you would want to show to everyone you know.
