This Gaming Device Started As An April Fool's Joke, But Will Be A Real Product Very Soon
It's a handheld gaming device that can support PC games.
This past April, ASUS ROG's (Republic of Gamers) head of project management, Shawn Yen, shared a video with a rather questionable caption on LinkedIn
Initially, the post only had the first half of the caption with the text "Happy April Fools. ROG Ally (A-lie)" which led many to believe that the post was just a joke.
The post featured a three-minute video of a handheld gaming device from ASUS called the ROG Ally. It showcased a general overview of the device and its capabilities, including handheld gaming as well as plug-and-play features, among others. The post has since been edited to clarify that the device is indeed an actual product being developed.
You can check out the full video below:
As it turns out, the ASUS ROG Ally is an actual handheld gaming device capable of running an array of games you can find on your PC
It boasts a true Windows 11 operating system, as well as AMD Ryzen's all new Ryzen Z1 Series processors that feature upscaling technologies capable of boosting frame rates while retaining excellent image quality. It is also packed with different operating modes that help you balance between performance and power usage.
Moreover, the ASUS ROG Ally also sports a 1080p touchscreen display with up to 120Hz refresh rate for smooth and crisp gameplay. Equipped with a Zero Gravity Thermal System, the ROG Ally relies on a specially constructed pipe with mesh to circulate heat out of its system, so you can game without the device overheating.
Extended gaming sessions won't feel so taxing on your thumbs and hands, as the gaming device only weighs 0.6kg.
The ASUS ROG Ally will officially launch on 13 June
The handheld gaming device will be available in two versions:
- Base version priced at USD599 (RM2,695)
- Top-tier version that sports a stronger processor, priced at USD699 (RM3,145)
These prices are not inclusive of tax and other miscellaneous fees. There has been no official statement on whether or not the ASUS ROG Ally will be releasing in Malaysia, but you can keep an eye out on their Facebook page for more details.
