Japanese video game giant Bandai Namco is setting its sights on Malaysia's game developers
The company is now aiming to collaborate with local game developers to strengthen ties with Malaysia’s growing gaming industry.
According to Bernama, Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s chief operating officer, Shuhei Banya, revealed the company’s intentions to assist Malaysian creators in developing original works and intellectual property (IP).
The company has already had several rounds of discussions with Malaysian game developers.

Banya said Bandai has the capabilities and framework in place that would support the collaboration if it materialises.
He elaborated on the dynamic nature of game development workloads, explaining how they fluctuate depending on the stage of production.
"It would be great if we could forge a relationship with companies like Passion Republic and Virtuos Kuala Lumpur where we help each other."
Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia has been operating for eight years, and the company is now contemplating the development of games or content that could incorporate elements of Malaysian culture
Banya added that Bandai's main goal is to create products for both children and adults that appeal to people across the world.
"Our main goal is to make fun, engaging games that bring people together — this includes people in Malaysia," he said.
Currently, Bandai Namco’s largest collaboration in Malaysia is with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The gaming group is set to participate in the upcoming LEVEL UP KL 2024 event next week, where it will continue to engage with local developers and industry professionals.
This move signals the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Malaysia and nurturing the country’s talent pool in the ever-growing global video game market.
