Here's How PPR Flat Residents Turned Their Lift Lobbies To Look Like A Beautiful Hotel
They look so pretty!
Residents of the Public Housing Project (PPR) in Lembah Subang have shared their efforts in transforming their lift lobbies to resemble those of a beautiful hotel
According to photos and videos shared by residents, the blackened walls of the lift lobbies have been completely repainted, and the bare cement floors have been covered with elegant tiles.
Photos shared by @nsulieza on TikTok reveal that the lift lobby on the sixth floor now features black and white marble tiles, with each lift door adorned with elegant wall lamps.
Additionally, two chandeliers and a fan have been installed to enhance the previously rundown area.
Some walls have even been covered with textured wood boards, marble design wallpaper, and mirrors, creating a refined space that warmly welcomes residents and visitors.
On the 10th floor, residents have covered the cement floors with marble mosaic tiles and repainted the walls, adding wainscoting for a sophisticated touch
Gold frames and scalloped corners were also added to embellish the lift lobby.
Responding to a netizen's enquiry, TikTok user @hanakamie said that an agreement among all neighbours to refurbish the lift lobby was crucial for the project's success.
They also revealed that the collaborative project is part of a cleanliness and cheerfulness competition organised by Think City under the Kita-untuk-Kita Programme.
According to the programme's website, the initiative is co-developed with the World Bank to facilitate poverty alleviation and reverse the social, economic, and physical decay in public housing schemes.
A 36-year-old resident on the sixth floor, Nur Suziela Sulaiman, said the competition offered the residents four design concepts to consider: minimalist, hotel lobby, modern, and environmental
Each floor has a different concept, which was decided upon after discussions among the neighbours of the same floor.
"For us on the sixth floor, in the initial stage, we chose a modern concept but we changed to a hotel lobby concept like the pictures that went viral on social media," she told mStar.
Suziela said residents of 14 units on the floor allocated between RM3,000 and RM4,000 each for the renovation.
"The fund was not entirely from us. Some were given to us by people close to us. Additionally, some of us sold used items. No specific amount was assigned to us [to fund the project].
"All the residents of the sixth floor were involved in the renovation work from 1 September to 21 September. The tiles were done by a skilled neighbour," she said.
Suziela mentioned that they have only completed the first phase of the competition, with three more phases to go before the 17 November deadline.
The upcoming tasks include beautifying the stair area and corridors, as well as maintaining cleanliness at all times.
