A Malaysian homemaker has gained social media fame for her inspiring journey of designing her own home

Amy Asmidar is a woman in her mid-30s who wears multiple hats – she's a mother-of-two, a homeowner busy visualising her dream home, and a content creator who has garnered over 23,000 followers on Instagram with the inspiring story of her DIY home transformation.

When she and her husband moved into their semi-detached house in Cyberjaya two years ago, they took on the challenge of designing their home without professional help.

In an interview with SAYS, Amy said this hands-on approach has allowed her to create a truly personalised space, all while adhering to a budget

Amy's home journey stands out from the norm, as her family had to urgently move into their current four-bedroom home in November 2021 with only basic furnishings.

Despite the challenges, Amy is proud to show that they managed to complete installation and renovation projects while already living in the house.

Amy shared that she renovated her home in phases, with the motto of "slowly but surely"

Without an interior designer, Amy said it took determination and patience to plan budgets, choose material and colours, compare quotes, and liaise with different contractors to carefully put her home together.

"My goal is to make my home feel cosy and serene, because I truly believe that a well-designed home has the power to enhance life," she told SAYS.

As for her style, she said she aimed to establish comfortable spaces throughout her home with a timeless, clean, and neutral aesthetic complemented by wooden accents.

So far, Amy has completed the renovation for her master bedroom, children's room, living room, kitchen, and dining room

However, her favourite space in the home is definitely the kitchen.

As she mentioned on Instagram, she had a wall broken down to expand the kitchen and to provide ample workspace and lots of storage, with custom-made cabinets.

"We also personally chose quality materials and equipment, as well as paid attention to the practical arrangement of the kitchen," she explained.

While she is thrilled with the results, Amy continues to add finishing touches and share valuable home renovation tips on social media
