We Tried Racing In Electric Go-Karts In Shah Alam, And Here's What We Think
We became racers for a day!
Go-karting is an exhilarating activity that's best enjoyed in the company of a group
Recently, the SAYS team craved an adrenaline rush and decided to satisfy our need for speed with a visit to Evolt Karting for some high-octane action.
Nestled in the quaint area of Kampung Melayu Subang, Shah Alam, we got wind of this spot and decided to check it out with our peers.
What sets Evolt Karting apart from other go-karting tracks in Malaysia is the exceptional quality of their electric go-karts
The secret behind Evolt Karting lies in its name: their go-karts are fully electric. This allows you to experience speed without contributing to pollution.
This also means that the near-silent karts are insanely fast and responsive. For comparison, if you've done traditional go-karting before, you'll notice that the petrol-powered karts often take a while to rev up to speed. In contrast, an electric go-kart reaches its top speed faster than any go-kart you've ever driven.
While the Sodi RSX2 go-karts sound intimidating, they are very beginner-friendly. Regardless of your height and size, the patented EASY DRIVE ergonomic technology allows seat and steering adjustment to fit even the burliest of men.
It's also worth noting that the new karts are equipped with rather new tyres. Combine that with the grippy track, and you're in for a good lap time.
Safety is a defintely a high priority at Evolt Karting
Driving fast at Evolt Karting doesn't mean you're compromising safety. In addition to the comprehensive driver's briefing that explains the safety rules and regulations, drivers are required to wear gloves, a balaclava, and a full-faced helmet for added safety and protection
The track employs FIA-certified specialised track barriers, elevating safety compared to traditional karting tracks. These purpose-built barriers ensure the safety of the drivers by absorbing any impacts and cushioning collisions, minimising the risk of injury.
In case of any incidents on the track, the safety marshals can automatically slow down the karts until they deem the track clear of any obstructions.
There is also a kiddies track separate from the main track, providing a safe and enjoyable space for your kids to join in the fun.
Evolt Karting caters to both beginners and seasoned drivers by offering three levels of difficulty
The Novice difficulty level lets drivers familiarise themselves with the track and the kart. Limited to 40km/h, this level is more than enough for the average driver. If you manage to achieve a time of 48 seconds or lower, you are eligible for the Advanced stage.
Advanced drivers will be driving at a top speed of 70km/h. This stage requires skill and consistency to hit fast lap times. Drivers who complete a lap with a time of 42 seconds or lower are eligible for the Pro stage.
The Pro stage is the ultimate racing experience, with each kart zooming through the track at a top speed of 90km/h. With speeds rivalling highway speed limits, drivers must be adept and focused throughout their stints.
With a highly technical track that offers a fast straight, challenging bends, and daunting chicanes, it will surely put the drivers' skills to the test.
There is also a race simulator if you prefer racing digitally
The simulators are equipped with state-of-the-art wheels and seats, providing an immersive experience that puts you right in the middle of the action.
You can also virtually drive on PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit together with your friends, competing for the fastest times and earning bragging rights.
Planning to race against your friends? Here is the price list to help you plan ahead:
For the average driver, the Novice class is likely the go-to option. Each session in this category costs RM70 per person, and various packages are available for those looking to drive more than one session. Each session has a duration of eight minutes.
If you're looking to spice things up, you can also opt for the Grand Prix packages, which offer more value for a group of more than six people.
Keep in mind that certain accessories, such as a balaclava, are required.
