From Health To Math, These Apps Help Mums And Dads Juggle The Load Of Parenting
Technology has limitless possibilities to help improve human life, and with advent of smartphones in our life, mobile apps can play a huge role in doing so. In the 36th Tech Tuesday column, we're listing down five apps that parents can use to help ease their lives.
1. Immunization Schedules: Kids, an extremely useful app for parents. It lets you add your child's details and reminds you when there's time for the next vaccination.
How It Works
Just enter your child's details in the app and relax, you'll be notified when the next vaccine is due. The app takes your child's vaccination schedule and puts in it your android phone.
It currently includes recommended schedules in USA, UK, Australia, Japan, Russia, India, Brazil, France, Philippines, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and UAE and more schedules will be added later.
2. SpinMe Alarm Clock, a clever app designed to force yourself awake by getting out of bed and spinning to shut off the alarm. Got kids to send to school but find it hard to get out of bed? Get SpinMe!
How It Works
The only way to turn off the alarm is by getting out of bed and physically spinning yourself around until the alarm stops! There is no escape!
And no, you can't cheat the app by simply spinning your device while still in bed.
3. PhotoMath, an app that reads and solves math in real time while also providing a step-by-step guide. Parents can help their kids better understand equations that do not have access to a tutor and struggle with solving it.
How It Works
PhotoMath solves mathematical expressions using your smartphone camera in real time. It may sound like it is simply helping kids cheat, but the app also provides a step-by-step guide showing how each of the problems are solved. Parents can also use the PhotoMath app to jog their memory when teaching math to their kids.
"PhotoMath currently supports basic arithmetics, fractions, decimal numbers, linear equations and several functions like logarithms. New math is constantly added in new app releases."
4. WebMD Baby, an app that offers young parents guidance on what to expect from their child's physical and emotional development, as well as health-related counsel when things go wrong
How It Works
Personalised for a baby’s specific age, the WebMD Baby app delivers timely physician-approved guidance, helping parents stay informed and one step ahead of their baby’s growth and development.
5. Ignore No More, an app that allows parents to lock their kids' phones from afar if they're ignoring their phone calls, with a password of the parent's choosing
How It Works
When a parent wants to lock their child's phone, all they have to do is to open the app and tap their child's name. Then enter an unlock code twice and then click to lock phone.
The child's screen then goes blank. With one tap, they get a list of pre-approved contacts, and they must call one in order to receive the password to unlock their phone.
6. HomeBudget with Sync, a perfect app for parents to keep track of their budget. It syncs your budget in the cloud to both your phones so that you're always on the same page as your partner.
How It Works
The app comes in two versions - the Lite version or the Full version. As with most iPhone apps, the Lite version is FREE, but the Full version is USD4.99.
Some great features within the app are: creating and editing all of your expenses, including being able to create recurring expenses; setting up bill payment reminders; formatting a complete family budget and linking your accounts with it so that you can see just how much is going out and what is coming in and how it stacks up.
