1. Play on an Android device, the Flappy Bird creator, Dong Nguyen, says it's easier

It's true

After giving myself a migraine from playing with my phone two inches away from my face, I decided to switch over my tablet. Turns out playing on a bigger screen makes dodging pipes a whole lot easier! Have an Android device? Even better. Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen recently tweeted that the game is easier on Android than it is on iOS.

2. Close other apps

You might also want to take a moment to force quit all other apps and reboot before you play. Flappy Bird is as glitchy as it is annoying, and a crash is as bad a call or an alert while you're tying to beat your high score.

3. Switch to Airplane Mode

No incoming calls can stop you now

Multi-tasking is almost impossible while playing Flappy Bird. Even talking to someone may result in failure. Drown out the family pet, your significant other and the TV, then enter the Flappy Bird zone; playing on an airplane or bus is not a great idea.

4. Find a good, comfortable position

Found your winning spot? Stay there.

Find a good position while playing. If you get a consecutive high score, remain in that position, but if you get a low score, change your position. It's up to you if you're going to sit, lay, etc. As long as you're comfortable, then surely you will get a good score.

5. Don't focus on the bird. Focus on the pipes.

6. Use short and measured taps to navigate the bird.

Once the bird is in between to two pipes, don’t jump again until the bird has reached the horizontal center.

Quick taps give you the chance to get into a rhythm while at the same time avoiding those dreaded green pipes. Ideally, you should only tap one-to-two times to clear a pipe.

7. Develop a rhythm. You can use the clouds as a guide when you start.

Try tapping to a rhythm. This will keep the bird steady and make it easier for you to control where he goes next. I like to use the clouds as an initial guide, bouncing the bird along the top.

8. FLY LOW. It helps to keep your eyes on the bottom pipes.

9. When you're in between pipes, don't tap until the bird has reached the horizontal centre

As you approach your first obstacle, speed up your tapping until the bird is at the same height as the vertical center of the pipes. Once the bird is in between to two pipes, don’t jump again until the bird has reached the horizontal center. This should help you to avoid those bumping into those deadly pipe corners.

10. Anticipate those tricky corners

Tapping too soon will definitely result in Flappy Bird hitting a pipe's corner, spelling certain doom. Make sure your taps give you enough space to clear a pipe completely.

11. Play on a tablet

At 2x on the iPad, Flappy Bird is literally twice as big and that means you not only have a great field of play, but an easier way of discerning details, and less of a chance your own finger will obscure your view and get in your way.

12. Stay calm

Slow, steady, breathing. Sounds silly, I know, but there’s a reason why the best fighters, the best sharpshooters, and the best surgeons all learn to manage their breathing. It creates calm. It creates focus. It puts you in the zone.

13. Take a break, you deserve it

Been playing too long? Take a break.

Flappy Bird will wreck havoc on your nerves and patience. People don't rage quit. They rage delete the game from their phones and tablets. That's why it's a great idea to put the game down and do something else. Go outside, get something to eat or meditate. It'll be there when you get back.

He then elaborated, “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.”

As Kotaku points out, the game has been around since 2013, but recently became wildly popular, boosted by a Buzzfeed article about its simple yet frustratingly difficult to master gameplay. Nguyen seemed uncomfortable with its popularity, refusing interviews and other press contact. It looks like the pressure was too much for Nguyen to bear.
