Here Are The Local Telco Plans For The iPhone 7 And 7 Plus

Which one would you go for?

To the delight of local Apple fans, the Cupertino-based company announced last week that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be released on 14 October in Malaysia

Apple Malaysia has updated the iPhone 7 page on its website with the official release date, confirming that the new generation of Apple smartphones will be arriving in Malaysia.

With only a few days away from the launch, local telcos like Maxis and Celcom have begun to take pre-orders for the new handsets. Let's take a look at the plans below:

1. Maxis

Promising to deliver the device to users within 24 hours, Maxis has opened up its pre-order campaign. Users who are interested in getting the latest iPhone from Maxis would have to sign a contract under its MaxisOne plan.

Maxis is selling the iPhone 7 with their MaxisONE Plan 128 that comes with unlimited calls and SMS. The MaxisONE 128 plan (RM128/month) comes with 10GB of data, followed by the MaxisONE 158 (RM158/month) at 15GB.

The most expensive plan on offer is their MaxisONE 188 (RM188/month) which comes with 20GB of data. You can also add on a MaxisONE Share supplementary line at RM48/month, which also enjoys unlimited calls and additional 5GB data into its shared data pool.

As for the prices, users would have to pay upfront a minimum of RM1,810, depending on the plans, model, and storage chosen.

2. Celcom

Celcom has made pre-orders available throughout Blue Cube outlets nationwide. Alternatively, users can order the phones online as well. Users can choose between two contract options from Celcom – FIRST Gold and FIRST Platinum.

Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available with storage options of 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

The FIRST Gold plan offers the 32GB iPhone 7 from RM2,058. For the iPhone 7 Plus, users would have to pay RM2,558 for the device. The FIRST Gold plan is priced at RM80/month with 10GB of data. Calls are free but SMS is charged at 20 cents each.

On the other hand, the FIRST Platinum comes in at RM150/month, with unlimited calls, unlimited SMS, and 18GB of data. This plan offers the iPhone 7 32GB from RM1,688. As for the iPhone 7 Plus, users would have to fork out RM2,188.

Take note that users are subjected to 24 months’ contract together with telco monthly commitment. Also, there's an upfront fee of RM700 or RM1,100.

3. Digi

Taking a more straightforward approach, Digi is only offering two plans for its iPhone 7 contracts and both have the same monthly commitment fee of RM148.

Users will have to decide whether they need more Internet or more talk time because that's how Digi has divided the plans. The Digi Postpaid 148 for More Internet comes with 14GB of data while the More Talk & SMS option comes with 10GB of data. Digi is also offering free 5GB of data for 24 months.

As for pricing of the devices, users will need to fork out at least RM1,776 for the 32GB iPhone 7 and RM2,276 for the iPhone 7 Plus that comes with 32GB storage.

Users will have to pay RM984 and RM148 for upfront payment and subscription fee respectively. Alternatively, the telco is also offering 0% interest easy payment credit card option from as low as RM122/month.

4. U Mobile

U Mobile is offering four plans for its 24-month contract and users could have it either postpaid or prepaid.

U Mobile's plans range from RM40/month to RM130/month.

As you can see from the table above, the most affordable package for the iPhone 7 belongs to the 32GB model under the i130 plan which cost RM1,800 excluding the upfront payment. The i130 plan comes with 7GB of data and unlimited calls.

U Mobile would require an upfront payment between RM240 to RM960 depending on plan during sign up which will be rebated back monthly across 24 months. The upfront payment which will be rebated monthly over a period of 2 years.

If users are unwilling to fork out a large sum upfront, U Mobile is also offering installment packages where users can pay for the phone and plan with 0% interest.
