Professional esports team RSG Malaysia has just signed on award-winning local musician and actor Datuk M Nasir as their newest player

In an announcement no one saw coming, RSG Malaysia welcomed the legendary 65-year-old artiste into their Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team yesterday, 28 July.

"A legend, a national icon, and now an RSG MLBB player with the in-game name (IGN), Sifu!" the organisation announced to their fans.

"Please welcome Datuk M Nasir as one of our 'flex role' players," they added.

"We know a lot of people didn't expect this announcement. Comment below which hero you think is suitable for Sifu [to play]!"

RSG Malaysia country director Johnny Tan has also confirmed the news of their team's latest member, denying that it is a prank

"He is joining the team as one of the players and he'll also take on the role as a mentor to the team," he said when contacted by The Star after some scepticism on social media.

"Due to his age and experience, he'll also be able to advise the team on how to be more calm and less 'kan cheong' (nervous)."

Tan also explained that M Nasir is a casual MLBB player, but has previously expressed interest in exploring the esports industry.

"We've been having this discussion for a month. He said that he wanted to try something new and venture into esports because of its growing popularity."

With the move, the 65-year-old adds 'esports gamer' to his expansive repertoire in the Malaysian creative industry as a singer-songwriter, composer, producer, actor, and director.

M Nasir is renowed for his role as Hang Tuah in 2004 movie 'Puteri Gunung Ledang'.
