At the same time, Xiaomi also announced today (23 April 2014) the full launch of its Apple-style wireless router, the Mi Router. The router, which costs CNY699 ($112), also supports a speed of up to 1167 Mbps like its mini version.

If you’re wondering what this is, the Mi Router is basically your Wireless Hotspot that also doubles up as a private storage server for your home or office.

Since it supports 802.11ac WiFi, transferring files should be blazingly fast with speeds up to 1167Mbps and it is powered by Broadcom’s BCM4709 dual-core Cortex-A9 processor with 256MB of RAM. For better connectivity at home, it boasts dual-band 2×2 antenna design that’s hidden underneath its elegantly designed case. Inside it comes equipped with a 1TB 2.5″ hard disk drive that’s user replaceable.

Being a centralised storage hub, the Mi Router is easily managed from the web or via an app on your smart phone. To add new devices, it can be done easily by tapping on the NFC located at the top.

The Mi Router which only comes in black is 168mm tall and weighs 555 grams.

We installed the Xiaomi Router in our office. And we tested the signal really from everywhere. No matter how many walls in between we still had a ver good WIfi Signal. So far so good. But a lot of other cheaper routers have good signal also.

So we took this Test a bit further. We could even leave our office, went down the stairs and sit (at) the corner coffee (shop). And you know what? We were using our own Oizoioi Office WIFI. Even opposite the street at the bus stop the WIFI was still working with the Xiaomi Router. And the Signal was not only strong, but the Xiaomi Router provides also speed and stable signal. Especially in Office Environment that is very important to never loose the WIFI in important calls with clients etc. But with this price you can use the Router easily at home and have stable signal.

From the mobile app, you can actually manage the Mi Router’s home server system including access levels, usage quotas or even queue movies to download.

That way you can initiate download in advance so that it is ready to watch by the time you get home. In terms of ports, there’s USB 2.0, 2x LAN ports (1000Mbps) and 1x WAN port (1000Mbps).

Like past Xiaomi products, the actual selling price in Malaysia shouldn’t be much different from its mainland China pricing after conversion. For less than RM400, this would be an instant sell out during its usual Tuesday flash sales.
