The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is Samsung latest entry in the mid-range market, and we're pleased to say that it holds up to the mid-range title

But first, let's check what's inside the box:

Upon unboxing, you'll find the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, a USB-C cable, and SIM-card ejector tool.

it may not be to everyone's liking that the brand is leaving out an adapter for the cable, but you can easily find a USB-C adapter at an electronics shop near you or by purchasing it online.

In fact, MR D.I.Y. has a 20W digital adapter that you can grab for just RM42.90.

As a mid-range smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G definitely packs a punch with its 6.4-inch full HD+ display and vibrant colours

I've been using the phone for over a month now, mainly for streaming Netflix and YouTube, doing some light gaming, and reading manga — and I am very satisfied with how these mediums appear on the screen.

The display packs a Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, which means that images and text appear sharp and crisp. It also packs up to 120Hz refresh rate which makes the phone feel responsive and fluid.

One of the standout features of the Galaxy A54 5G's display is its excellent colour reproduction. The colours are vibrant and punchy, which makes watching videos and playing games a delight. Additionally, the phone's display supports HDR10, which enhances the contrast and brightness levels, making the colours pop even more.

Here's how it looks like when playing games on the smartphone:

The smartphone also comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery and 25W fast-charging support

I've only been using the Galaxy A54 5G as a second driver up to this point, which means there is no SIM card inserted in it, and I've been mainly relying on WiFi to access its features.

From this experience, I can report that the battery lasted me quite long. After initially charging it to 100%, I was able to use the phone to read manga and watch videos (in full brightness) for up to two days before the battery reached 5%.

I've recently charged the phone to 100% again a few days ago and left it alone mostly, and the battery is just at 28%.

If that's not enough, the Galaxy A54 5G also comes with an adaptive power-saving mode that optimises the phone's power consumption based on your usage patterns. This means that the phone can conserve battery life when you're not using it, and optimise performance when you need it.

Powered by an Exynos 1380 chipset, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G boasts flagship-level features such as the ability to handle up to 144Hz refresh rates, 200MP shutters, and fast app loading and multitasking

I found the performance on the Samsung A54 5G to be excellent. The phone is fast and responsive, and I haven't experienced any lag or stuttering when running multiple apps or playing games. The 5G connectivity also adds to the phone's overall performance, as it allows for faster download and upload speeds.

The Galaxy A54 5G's performance is further enhanced by the 8GB RAM, which is more than enough to handle day-to-day smartphone usage, be it for texting, social media, games, or videos without any lag or buffering.

The triple-camera setup on the Galaxy A54 5G ticks all of the boxes you would expect from a mid-range device

With a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide, and 5MP depth sensor, the Galaxy A54 5G provides a variety of ways for users to snap their pics and be creative.

The 50MP main camera worked especially great in well-lit environments, producing sharp and detailed images with accurate colours and good dynamic range.

Additionally, I've found the portrait mode on the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G to be quite effective. The camera produces images with good edge detection, which means that the subject is usually in focus and the background is blurred effectively. The bokeh effect is also quite natural-looking, and it doesn't look too artificial or overdone.

Here's a portrait shot on the Galaxy A54 5G with the subject clearly expressed. (In this case, the subject is me :P).

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G also boasts Samsung's signature Nightography feature, which is essentially Samsung's version of Night Mode photography.

Generally, it performed quite well with less noise and better detail, but we'll get more into in another feature. :)

One drawback I found on the Galaxy A54 5G is the glass back which is prone to fingerprints and scratches if you're not careful

I mentioned this during my first impressions with the device as well.

The back is imbued with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which Corning claims to be able to survive up to 1.2-meter, waist-high drops onto hard, rough surfaces. However, it may still be best to opt for a case, just to be safe.

The grip can also be quite slippery without a case, especially if you have sweaty palms.

Ultimately, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is a well-rounded mid-range smartphone that offers solid camera performance, a vibrant and large display, good battery life, and smooth performance for everyday tasks

And the best part of all, you can get the smartphone below RM2,000, alongside features that typically reside within flagship smartphones that cost RM3,000 and above.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is available for purchase now on the Samsung Online Store for RM1,899.
