Here's How You Can Send Music To Your Future Self Through Spotify
Send a time capsule of all the good music you've listened to throughout the year.
You've wrapped up 2023 by looking back at your music taste with Spotify Wrapped. Now, it's time to look into the future.
Spotify has reintroduced its Playlist in a Bottle feature, a year after its initial launch on 5 January 2023. This unique tool allows users to create a musical time capsule by answering three song-inspired prompts, resulting in a personalised playlist that remains locked away for exactly 12 months.
If you participated last year, you can now retrieve your playlist, or if you missed out, you can create one for next year, to be unveiled only in 2025.
Here's how you can make your own musical time capsule:
Creating your own time capsule is very simple. All you need to do is to answer a few questions to personalise your time capsule. Also, you'll have to be subscribed to any Spotify plan to do this.
Without further ado, here are the steps:
1. Open the Playlist In A Bottle website
You can visit the link on your smartphone or desktop to start making your time capsule.
2. Choose your Time Capsule
You have the option to choose your preferred container for the Playlist in a Bottle feature. Whether it's a snow globe, a wheelie bin, a rice cooker, a flip phone, a bird's nest, or the classic bottle, you can pick the one that resonates with you to encapsulate your musical journey for the next 12 months.
3. Answer a few questions and choose your songs
The process involves selecting songs based on interesting prompts, such as "a song you'd play for aliens if they visited Earth", "a song you need to hear live in 2024", and "a song you'd bring to a desert island".
You can either randomise your choices or manually type in song titles. Spotify will then generate search results, and by pressing the + button, you can lock in your selections before moving on to the next prompt.
6. Confirm your selection of music
You can make one last change to your list of songs you would like your future self to listen to. Once you're done, tap on the 'Lock In' button.
