Time to Upgrade: WhatsApp Won't Work On Older Android Phones Starting 2025
Android users running KitKat or older, take note.

Starting 1 January 2025, WhatsApp will no longer be supported on Android devices running KitKat or earlier versions
If your Android phone is over 10 years old, you'll need to upgrade to a newer model to continue using WhatsApp.
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is implementing this change because older phones lack the capability to support the new features and updates being introduced. These include advanced AI functionalities and other resource-intensive features that demand more modern hardware.
If you’re still using an older Android phone as your primary device, now might be the perfect time to consider an upgrade
GSM Arena reports that legacy Android smartphones, including popular models like the Samsung Galaxy S3, Motorola Moto G (1st Gen), and HTC One X, will lose WhatsApp access.
If you’re still using one of these classic phones, make sure to back up your WhatsApp data to a newer device before the new year. Failing to do so could result in losing all your chat history and media.
While these older phones may still work as backup devices, they will no longer be able to run WhatsApp after the deadline.
