Xiaomi Is Now World's Fifth Largest Smartphone Maker After Just Four Years
Xiaomi is not so 'Xiao' anymore.
Xiaomi has been on everyone's lips recently and it shows as it is now the world's fifth largest smartphone manufacturer
Global smartphone sales are still growing, but the market’s star performer in the last three months wasn’t Apple or even Samsung. It was China’s Xiaomi.
forbes.comGlobal smartphone shipments grew 27 percent in the second quarter, but the "star performer" of the period just might surprise you. No, it wasn't one of the usual suspects — Apple or Samsung — but China's Xiaomi, according to new data from Strategy Analytics.
pcmag.comLess than 3 years since the launch of its first smartphone, the Mi1, China’s Xiaomi is a market phenomenon and arguably the most talked about smartphone manufacturer in the world. In the second quarter of 2014, Strategy Analytics reports that Xiaomi shipped 15.1 million smartphones, making the company the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world with a 5.1% global smartphone market share.
soyacincau.comXiaomi captured a remarkable 5.1% of the market, a huge increase from 1.8% last year
The young electronics firm run by billionaire Lei Jun captured a remarkable 5% global market share in the last three months, according to new figures from Strategy Analytics, shipping 15.1 million smartphones in the quarter. It now has a 5.1% share of the market, up from 1.8% this time last year.
forbes.comThe market research firm on Thursday reported that Xiaomi captured a record 5 percent market share in the second quarter to become the fifth largest smartphone vendor in the world for the first time ever.
pcmag.comAccording to the latest numbers posted by Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi is now the 5th largest smartphone maker in the world commanding 5.1 per cent of the global marketshare.
intoday.inWhat makes it even more impressive is that Xiaomi is just four years old and doesn't sell their phones to developed markets like the United States
This is the first time Xiaomi has risen to 5th place in its share of global shipments, according to Strategy Analytics’ Woody Oh — which is extraordinary considering the company is just four years old.
forbes.comThis number is particularly impressive when one takes into account the fact that the company does not sell phones in many developed markets like the US.
intoday.inXiaomi is known as the "Apple of China", imitating Apple in terms of design and their presentation style
CEO Lei is known for emulating Steve Jobs’s presentation style and dress code, even concluding a recent public launch with the famous Apple slide saying, “one more thing.” The company’s Mi4 smartphone also bears a strong resemblance to the iPhone, and it’s website has many similarities to Apple’s. The copycat style has irked some, but it seems to be working.
forbes.comDespite a flood of accusations that—not unjustly—charge the company with wholesale imitation of Apple, Xiaomi continues to build a dedicated and eager customer base throughout the world. It remains to be seen how market leaders Samsung and Apple will respond to the disruptive “Little Rice” from China.
soyacincau.comAlthough Samsung is still the market leader, it has lost 12% of its market share this quarter
Samsung retained its lead as the top smartphone vendor in the second quarter, shipping 74.5 million smartphones worldwide, but its share of the market dropped to 25 percent from 33 percent a year earlier. Apple took second place, growing a "below-average" 13 percent annually with 35.2 million iPhones shipped worldwide for 12 percent market share.
pcmag.comSamsung was the biggest loser. Its market share went down to 25.2 per cent in Q2 2014, from 32.6 per cent in Q2 of 2013. Samsung also shipped lesser units in Q2 of 2014. It shipped 74.5 million units in Q2 2014, which was lower than 76 million units in Q2 of 2013 typifying its struggles in the smartphone market and its poorest quarter in two years.
