Mohamed Apandi Ali has gone back to his political roots

The former Attorney-General has been named as one of the 11 appointed UMNO Supreme Council members in a move, which party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said is to implement "reforms" that would help UMNO "maintain its relevance."

"In line with (conclusion) of the latest party election, as UMNO president, I announce the list of appointed Supreme Council members under Article 9.2.8 of the party's constitution, as well the appointed UMNO state liaison chiefs and other state leaders," Zahid Hamidi was quoted as saying by UMNO Online.

Back in 1991, Apandi used to be an UMNO member

He was an Umno member from 1982 to 1991, reported FMT.

Following Pakatan Harapan's victory against Barisan Nasional in GE14, Apandi, who has been seen as a Najib sympathiser, was fired from his post as A-G.

In 2015, Apandi had cleared 1MDB of any wrongdoing.
