Last night at 11.10pm, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted an apology to his Indonesian counterpart, Imam Nahrawi, after being made aware that the Indonesian flag in a booklet on the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games 2017 (KL2017) was printed upside-down

The Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister, who had earlier praised the KL2017 Opening Ceremony, tweeted that the grand opening ceremony was marred by a "deeply hurtful fatal negligence"

Furthermore, while speaking to Indonesia’s state-run news agency Antara, Imam said that, "We will definitely protest. We are also waiting for a direct apology from the government of Malaysia. How can such a big and special event be tarnished by this?

"This is really very careless and we are very, very disappointed. This has injured us as a great nation … It should not be allowed to happen again, especially as this is a very open event, watched by millions of eyes. Of course, we regret this incident."

Khairy will be paying a courtesy call to Imam later today to further extend the apology, the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) has said. Khairy is MASOC Chairman.

"We would like to sincerely apologise to the people of Indonesia for the inadvertent error of publishing the wrong flag for Indonesia.

"We very much regret the mistake and trust the strong bond between the two countries will further strengthen in the spirit of the SEA Games," MASOC said.
