To celebrate Hari Kebangsaan, a visual effects artist brought Merdeka 118 to life by animating it to resemble Malaysia's first prime minister raising his hand while shouting "Merdeka" on 31 August 1957

The 25-second video was posted by GARISPXL.CO, a local creative studio specialising in visual effects and design, yesterday, 31 August.

The video shows a helicopter taking off from a helipad illuminated with the colours of Jalur Gemilang at Menara Takaful Malaysia.

Then, sections of Merdeka 118, the second tallest building in the world, open up to reveal a futuristic robotic structure concealed behind its expansive window panels.

The helicopter enters the building through a special tunnel before a hologram appears to show Tunku Abdul Rahman chanting "Merdeka".

The video concludes with Merdeka 118 raising several sections of its glass panels to form the silhouette of Tunku Abdul Rahman, replicating the iconic moment when he made the historic chant.

At the time of writing, the video has received praise from Malaysians for its imaginative and refined visual effects edits

"Always the best coming from you guys," said Aina Mariah, who is also a visual effects artist and content creator at SEISMIK TV.

"Excellent la!" commented a person on TikTok, while another added, "This is awesome, admin!"

Speaking to SAYS, GARISPXL.CO said the visual effects were created by 3D artist @keoncgi

The local creative studio said it was a collaborative effort among its team members to visit the location to record footage with its office equipment.

This is not the first time GARISPXL.CO has amazed Malaysians with its videos. In June, it incorporated post-apocalyptic themes from the sci-fi series Alice in Borderland onto the façade of Arte Cheras, a luxury loft located on Jalan Midah, Cheras.

The video garnered over 9,400 likes, leaving many netizens in awe of the visual effects edits.
