Several days ago, video content creator Amy Chang shared a TikTok of the method, which has gained over 5.8 million plays and 1.1 million likes at the time of writing.
All you need are two pencils and a measuring tape or ruler.
Place one pencil horizontally under your chin and the other pencil perpendicular to it from the bottom tip of your ear

Using a ruler or measuring tape, measure the distance from the tip of your ear to the corner where both pencils meet

She explains that if the distance is longer than 2.25" (5.7cm), then longer hair will look better on you. And if the distance is shorter than 2.25" (5.7cm), then shorter hair will look good on you.
In the comments, Chang shares that the length and angle of your jaw is what makes the biggest difference.
If your measurement falls exactly on 2.25", then it probably means that you can go either way, she adds.
This hack was apparently discovered by celebrity hairstylist John Frieda, founder of the hair salon and popular hair product business
One of his senior stylists Giles Robinson explains that the trick has more to do with the angle of your jaw bone, rather than your face shape.
Of course, there are certain exceptions to this rule. But if you've been curious to know what length suits you best, this quick test could help.

Optionally, you could also look up different face shape hairstyles to determine what haircut flatters your face shape.
The different face shapes are rectangle, triangle, diamond, heart, round, oval, and square.
Just remember, at the end of the day, despite the hair length, it's all about what style makes you feel the most confident.
So you do you!
And if all else fails... :P
