Forget about the hustle and bustle of the city for one moment and enjoy a calming stroll surrounded by lush greenery.

Since its opening in September 2018, Taman Tugu has become a popular spot for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.

Dive into the rich history of the local police force at the Royal Malaysia Police Museum located at Tasik Perdana or get some insight into Malaysia's financial system at the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum.

Both places offer free admission and a visit to these locations will instantly make your weekend fun and educational.

3. Up your Instagram game with photoshoots at Kwai Chai Hong

Pose in front of stunning murals and leave your Instagram followers wondering whether you're in Penang or Melaka when in truth, you're just right here in KL! The once-abandoned alley was revived to reflect early Chinese settlers who lived there during the 1960s.

Surrounded by famous eateries and other local attractions, Kwai Chai Hong is a must-visit!

4. Find a new favourite book at the KL Library

Located right next to Dataran Merdeka, the KL Library underwent a huge upgrade in the past year and now it looks spanking new with state-of-the-art facilities. Both admission and library membership are free and members get extra perks such as access to their private rooms and free use of the computers at the Internet cafe.

There is also a special area designated for children aged four to 12, making it a family-friendly spot for a cheap weekend in KL.

5. Have a picnic at the KLCC park during the day

Whether you're on a date or just looking to spend time with friends, a picnic is always a great idea. If you're looking to bask in the sun while taking in some fresh air, then KLCC park is the perfect place to do so.

Pack some light snacks from or buy some food at eateries nearby, it's convenient and also comes with a stunning backdrop of the Petronas Twin Towers.

6. Relax to the sound of waterfalls

Although Batu Caves is more famously known for its colourful temple, the district is also home to a pretty impressive waterfall nestled in the Sungai Tua Recreational Park. It's easily accessible by car and people also often enjoy BBQ parties by the river.

Would recommend going on a hot day so you can truly appreciate the sharp cold water.

7. Play tourist at Petaling Street and Central Market

A hotspot for photographers and people watchers, these two locations are always bursting with life. At Central Market, you can check out humble stores selling local crafts. Meanwhile, Petaling Street is filled with interesting shops and popular cheap florists.

Window shopping and taking photos here will cost you a total of RM0.

8. Hunt down buskers around KL

If you're big on live music but would like to opt for something cheaper than concert tickets, check out the talented buskers all around KL. A few popular busking spots include Bukit Bintang, KL Sentral, Avenue K, and Jalan Alor. They often sing covers of popular songs and many of the singers have absolutely amazing showmanship.

Although the show is free, we highly recommend you tip them!
