It's happening! The long-awaited Ghibli Park is due to open in Nagoya, Japan on 1 November 2022.

The amusement park based on Studio Ghibli's beloved animated movies will be located in Aichi Expo Memorial Park

Aichi Expo Memorial Park is an existing public park in Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture – about an hour east by train from Nagoya city.

Ghibli Park promises visitors and fans that they will be able to take a stroll through iconic Studio Ghibli architecture in real-life and feel as if they are in a Ghibli film.

They emphasise that the park will not feature large rides and rollercoasters, but quiet trails, lush nature, and many fantasy-filled exhibits.

Here are some visualisations that Studio Ghibli announced back in 2018:

The Ghibli Park will have five areas.

However, only three attractions — Ghibli's Warehouse, Youth Hill, and Acorn Forest — are opening in November.

The remaining sections, Mononoke's Village and the Valley of Witches, are expected to be completed in autumn 2023.

In true Ghibli fashion, each section was created to preserve the park's natural landscape while recreating Hayao Miyazaki's magical works

Based on photos and videos released so far, some settings include My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

Here are some sneak peeks of the completed attractions the park has released:

However, do take note that tickets must be bought in advance before the park's opening on 1 November

Unfortunately, according to the website, it will be a lottery-based booking system.

You have to pick a specific date and time as well as your preferred area at the time of application.

You can now apply for the tickets online from 10 August to 22 August.

Winners will be notified on 2 September. After which, tickets that are unclaimed by 9 September will go on sale on a first-come, first-served basis the next day.
