One artist even drew a QR code by hand!
New murals have recently spruced up the pillars beneath the SS15 LRT station

It was soon revealed that the murals are part of the 'Sang Seni SS15' mural project, an initiative brought to life through a collaboration between Rapid KL and the Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman's office
According to a Facebook post by Rapid KL on 3 January, the project began on 20 December 2024 and was about 80% complete as of last week.
"This first project of its kind showcases the artwork of local artists around Rapid KL public transportation. Each mural carries a unique theme, full of creativity and inspiration.
"In addition to beautifying the environment, the murals will hopefully improve the image of Subang Jaya, especially SS15," the company shared.
When asked how the idea to paint murals under the SS15 LRT station came about, Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman Michelle Ng said, "These pillars used to have graffiti all over them, which was not very pleasant and personally annoyed me to no end. We, however, saw this as an opportunity."
"The murals were intentionally curated with the objective not just to beautify SS15, but to showcase local artists. SS15 has always been a trend-setter: from hosting the café scene to the bubble tea street, and now Chinese hot pot — it made sense for us to pilot this first of its kind project with Prasarana here. I must also mention FitLine, our co-sponsor, for believing in this vision and making this happen," she told SAYS.
When asked about future plans to beautify other parts of Subang Jaya in a similar way, Ng added, "I would love to have more murals done over the rest of the LRT pillars in SS15 and Taipan, but that is subject to discussion with Prasarana and the advertisement concessionaire."

SAYS also reached out to one of the mural art studios involved in the project, Tongkang Art, as well as the curator Muhamad Firdaus Omar of Quest Studio, who coordinated the initiative
Muhamad Firdaus explained that the murals revolve around the themes of mobility, community, commerce, and lifestyle in SS15.
"The aim was to rehabilitate the pillars that were previously vandalised with graffiti and improve the image of Subang Jaya, Rapid KL, and the surrounding businesses with the artwork of local muralists," he said.
Tongkang Art's team, comprising six artists, painted three of the pillars. In total, 12 pillars were transformed, with 10 to 12 painters and assistants participating in the project.
One of the standout details includes a hand-drawn QR code embedded in one of the murals, showcasing the artists' ingenuity and attention to detail.

The initiative has received an outpouring of praise from the community
"Good effort," commented one Facebook user on Rapid KL's post.
Another shared their admiration for the murals: "Interesting. I've driven past here a couple of times and saw the artists still completing their paintings into the night. There's also a beautiful tiger painting on the pillar in the middle of the entrance towards the SS15 shophouses."
Many agreed that the murals are a welcome change. "It's better to have murals than graffiti on these pillars underneath the LRT in SS15. Well done to Rapid KL and the Subang Jaya ADUN," said another user.

With their colourful themes and positive designs, others agreed that the murals have not only brightened up the area but also highlighted the talent and creativity of local artists.
"Malaysians do have some serious talent in mural arts. Let it be encouraged. We want more good murals, not vandalism," wrote a Reddit user.
