A couple of weeks ago, Facebook user Ravinder Kaur Joachim revealed her coconut candy recipe on a group page called Jane's Little Kitchen.
At the time of writing, the post has more than 3,700 shares.
The recipe is really simple and requires a bit of patience. But the end result is worth it!
All you need are these ingredients:
- Freshly grated coconut (her recipe uses two coconuts)
- A tin of condensed milk
- Sugar
- 3 tablespoons of water
- A couple of drops of vanilla essence
- A couple of drops of food colouring (optional)
You can get freshly grated coconuts from most supermarkets or mini marts. However, if you can't find it, other recipes explain that you can substitute it with desiccated coconut.
Here's how to get started:
Step one - Cook the grated coconuts in a pan or wok on a low heat until it dries a little or turns slightly yellow

Step two - Switch off the stove, make a hole in the centre, and add in one tin of condensed milk and sugar. Then mix it.
Measure the amount of sugar according to the tin or add less if you don't want it too sweet.

Step three - Add in a few drops of vanilla essence and food colouring of your choice
The food colouring is optional and it's just to give it that vibrant colour.

Step four - Turn the stove back on and put it on a high flame so that the sugar can melt. Continue to mix well.
If it is too dry at this point, add in two to three tablespoons of water to help dissolve the sugar.

You will start to notice the sugar around the pan begin to harden slightly. Just continue to mix until the coconut becomes dry.
Once you see the pan become dry, then it's ready to be taken out.

Step five - Remove the coconut mixture from the pan and place it in a tin or any flat container. Then, level it out with a spatula or a flat kitchen tool.

Ravinder explained that she used a plastic bag to wrap her tool so that the coconut candy doesn't stick to it.

Step six - Once it is levelled out evenly, leave it for a couple of hours to let it cool down and set
You can also put it in the fridge to speed up the process.

Step seven - When it has cooled down, remove it from the fridge, cut it into cubes, and serve!
