Syed Muhammad Hafiz said his business began to boom after he figured out a way to sell his mee sotong commercially, by incorporating retort food packaging technology
Retort technology is a food processing method that uses heat and pressure to sterilise food. This approach ensures his mee sotong is ready-to-eat straight from its packaging, extending the food's shelf life while preserving its flavours and nutritional content.
The graduate who holds a bachelor's degree in applied science, said that he learnt about the retort method during his studies, reported Berita Harian.
"The knowledge I gained at UMK and my father's recipe enabled me to transform the mee sotong into 'retort' food, resulting in extraordinary demand," he said.

According to Berita Harian, Syed Muhammad Hafiz has received recognition for his use of retort technology and aspires to expand his business to other countries, including South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Macau, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
