25-Year-Old KL Man Who Robbed A Grab Driver Has Now Been Sentenced To 5 Years In Jail

He was also ordered to be given a stroke of the cane.

On Tuesday, 25 June, Ampang Sessions Court sentenced an unemployed man to five years' jail and a stroke of the cane after the accused changed his plea to guilty for robbing a Grab driver

Judge Suzanna Hussin meted out the sentence on 25-year-old Mohammed Azlan Shah Zamri and ordered the sentence to run from the date of arrest on 1 November last year.

According to NST Online, Mohammed Azlan pleaded guilty to committing gang robbery with two others and threatening the Grab driver, Mok Jun Yue, with a knife before fleeing off with the victim’s three ATM cards, a mobile phone and RM210 cash.

Mohammed Azlan had committed the offence at Jalan Jujur 1/6, Taman Bakti in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, at 4 am on 20 September

While the charge framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code read together with Section 397 of the same code provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, the accused's lawyers appealed for a lighter sentence as he has to help his family

Bernama reported that in taking account of the increasing number of crime cases, Deputy public prosecutor Goh Ai Rene urged for a punitive sentence to serve as a lesson.

However, the lawyers Muhammad Razman Sahat and Muhammad Amin Abdullah who were representing the unemployed man appealed for a lighter sentence arguing that he has to help his family after his father was diagnosed with cancer and heart disease.
