State media Bernama reported that four personnel were killed.
Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said the incident took place at the guardhouse of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) Unit
A Malaysiakini report quoted him saying that the incident occurred when one of the TUDM personnel started shooting at his colleagues during the incident.
"It happened when one of the personnel took an M4 assault rifle and started shooting, killing two of his colleagues at the scene, and seriously injuring another," Aidi said.
One other personnel, who was injured in the shooting, succumbed at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre.

While police are still investigating the motive, TUDM said it will set up an investigation board to identify the cause of the incident
"In the meantime, TUDM appeals to all quarters to not speculate on the incident until the process of investigation has been completed," read a statement issued by TUDM.
