4-Year-Old Boy Makes 50 Sandwiches For Food Bank On His Birthday

Birthdays allow people to feel special and show how much their loved ones care about them; it is their day!
Hence, it was a pleasant surprise when four-year-old Jarrett wanted to spend his birthday helping those who are less fortunate during this pandemic.
SAYS was told that Jarrett's selfless act started when he and his classmates were encouraged to come up with a way to help the underprivileged as part of their assignment called "Fifty for the Needy" by his kindergarten, The Mustard Seed School.
So when his parents asked him how he wanted to spend his birthday, he came up with the idea of making his favourite food for the less fortunate; peanut butter and chocolate sandwiches!
Despite his extremely young age, Jarrett recognised the struggles that Malaysians are facing during the pandemic and was motivated to find a way to help them.

"We couldn't be prouder of Jarrett for embarking on such a selfless act, we were prepared to buy him toys as we usually do but he insisted that this was how he wanted to spend his birthday," Jarrett's mother said
The birthday boy spent a significant portion of his special day, 18 July, making 50 sandwiches and packing them into containers for the less fortunate with the assistance of his seven-year-old sister, Maya. He also created a fundraising poster that was shared on Facebook and WhatsApp.
They then proceeded to their local community petrol station, Caltex Setia Alam, to deliver the sandwiches to its ongoing food bank initiative — where generous people can contribute in replenishing the shelves with food and essentials items.

In just two days, Jarrett was able to collect RM2,300 from 54 donors, which he then channelled to the Caltex's food bank through his kindergarten
"I am very happy that I got to spend my birthday sharing my favourite sandwich with the needy, I hope this brightens up their day!” said a cheerful Jarrett.
Jarrett’s mother urged everyone to practice acts of kindness in any way they can.
"We certainly need to celebrate little wins and continue towards encouraging one another at all times”, she added.
