A 29-year-old daughter could only embrace her father's grave as she could not get home in time for his burial

Nurul Akmal Sulaiman is a health care assistant working in Bukit Saujana, Johor Bahru, reported Harian Metro.

At 4.40am last Thursday, 10 August, her father, Sulaiman Mohd, died of a heart attack.

"At the time, I was already asleep and didn't realise my sister called. I woke up at 6.30am, and immediately, I went to the bus terminal to buy a ticket to go back to my village," she said.

Her hometown, Kampung Parit Che Ha, is located in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu. She was about 550km away from home.

Nurul Akmal wanted to rush home to see her father one last time before he was buried, but as fate would have it, bus tickets to Kuala Terengganu were all sold out due to the state elections

Left with no choice, she opted to buy a bus ticket that would take her to Kuantan, Pahang before being picked up by her brother.

"I arrived at the cemetery at 4.30pm. I didn't have time (to see him one last time) because my father was buried after Zuhur prayer," Nurul Akmal told Harian Metro.

According to Muslim funeral traditions, family members are advised to bury their loved ones as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours of their death.

Prior to her father's passing, she visited him in the neurological ward while he was receiving treatment

"I visited my father in the hospital, but he could not speak at that time.

"That was the last time I looked at his face. I'm sad that my father is now gone.

"During my journey home, I was sad and regretted for not being able to meet, hug, and kiss his body," she lamented.

Nurul Akmal said that she is the youngest in the family, and shared a close relationship with her father. Her mother passed away two years ago due to a heart attack as well.
