At 7.39pm last night, 8 January, a mother and her son were killed in an accident in Kampung Kedai 2, Rimba Simpang 4, Bagan Serai, Perak

The victims were identified as 64-year-old Zainab Alias, and her son, Shahren Ismail, aged 37.

The accident involved a Toyota Yaris, which was driven by the doctor, and a lorry, driven by the victims. They were killed on the spot while the Toyota Yaris driver was injured, a Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said.

"Firemen had to use a special tool to remove the victims who were pinned to their seats," he said adding that the bodies were taken to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

The accident was caused after the Toyota Yaris driver suddenly entered from the opposite lane and rammed into the lorry

Kerian district police chief Supt Juna Yusoff said the impact left the victims trapped in their seats.

The mother and son were satay traders and were on their way home to Taiping from Semanggol.

"The lorry is believed to have been hit by the car from Taiping, which suddenly entered the lorry's path. As a result of the accident, the lorry driver and passenger died at the scene," Juna said.

According to him, the 28-year-old car driver works as a doctor at Taiping Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, reported Berita Harian.
