Former health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has gone back to work, even though he had just retired six months ago

In a Facebook post yesterday, 3 October, the endocrine surgeon announced his return to work at the Putrajaya Hospital and introduced its new Endocrine Institute, which opened in April this year.

"This morning, I returned to work at the Endocrine Institute in Putrajaya Hospital," said the 60-year-old doctor, who had dedicated 35 years to the public health sector.

Noor Hisham introduced the Endocrine Institute as a 10-story block with a total of 220 beds

The new building has an intensive care unit (ICU) with 10 beds for adults and eight for paediatric patients, as well as a hybrid operating room for neuro-endocrine surgeries, and four other operating theatres.

"I hope this institute will strengthen medical services and endocrine surgery in the country and remain as a centre of international excellence," he said.

Noor Hisham added that he will be performing surgeries every Monday and holding clinic consultations every Tuesday

The previous head and senior consultant of breast and endocrine surgery at Putrajaya Hospital also expressed gratitude to some staff who supported him throughout his career.

"I would like to recognise and appreciate Sister Rahimah who has been supporting me in clinical care for more than 15 years. Most of my patients will know she is the backbone of my clinical service," he wrote in another Facebook post today, 4 October.
