Elderly Uncle Builds Raft To Shelter 150 Chickens And Ducks From Impending Monsoon Floods
This decision came after his previous bitter experience of losing thousands of ringgit worth of livestock to floodwaters.
An elderly man in Terengganu has taken the initiative to build a sheltered raft to safeguard his livestock with the upcoming Northeast Monsoon approaching
According to Bernama, 73-year-old Mohd Sulong from Kampung Pengkalan Ajal, Ajil decided to build the pen on a raft following his previous bitter experience of losing thousands of ringgit worth of livestock in a flood.
He decided to build the raft on his own despite his poor health.
He spent RM500 to build the pen, which can fit 150 chickens and ducks, using wood as well as floats made from large barrels.
"I built the pen myself, without any help, to save costs. I took four months to complete it because I was often unwell after suffering a stroke earlier this year.
"I did it little by little, racing against time as I worried a flood might suddenly hit," he stated.

Mold also made floating racks out of bamboo to store electrical appliances like his washing machine and refrigerator inside the house
He explained that his house gets flooded with chest-high water every year, which damages plenty of his household items.
"There are floods at least twice a year, usually at the beginning and end of the monsoon.
"Previously, I built a platform inside the house, but sometimes the water rises higher, damaging my belongings.
"I hope that this time, the important items will be safe. I can't keep repairing or replacing broken electrical items every year," said Mohd, who lives together with his wife.
He added that other residents are building raft storage outside their homes in preparation for the floods, but he could not afford such storage due to the costs.
