Residents Panic At The Sight Of Elephants Wandering Around A Neighbourhood In Johor
According to one of the residents, she wasn't aware of the presence of the elephants until she heard what sounded like a stampede in front of her house.
Residents of a neighbourhood in Johor were shocked to see two elephants damaging one of their neighbour's house gates on Wednesday, 11 January
The elephants' attempts to enter the house in Taman Perdana, Kluang, were captured in a 26-second video that recently went viral on Twitter.
The home's 83-year-old owner, M Pavayee Ammah, said she wasn't aware of the presence of the adult elephant and her calf until she heard what sounded like a stampede in front of her house at 9.30pm.
She was shocked to discover the two elephants crashing into her house while other residents tried to chase the mammals away into a nearby forest, Bernama reported.
"I was shivering with fear when I saw the elephants in the compound and also heard the residents shouting for me not to leave the house," the senior citizen said.
In addition, one of the residents expressed their concern about the recent presence of wild animals in the neighbourhood
Speaking to Bernama, 67-year-old M Alangovan said, "I hope the authorities can do something for fear of untoward incidents happening."

The Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has since responded to the issue by chasing the elephants to a nearby forest, located about 500m from the residential area
Johor Perhilitan director Aminuddin Jamin said he believes that the animals were separated from their herd.
"Monitoring will continue to be carried out with the use of drones to ensure that they return to their original habitat and do not stray by entering the settlement area," he added.
