Drivers may enjoy toll exemptions at the West Coast Expressway (WCE) from today, 21 November, until 2 January 2024

According to the New Straits Times, the new section connects Bandar Bukit Raja Utara to Assam Java, and reduces the travel time on the existing route from 45 minutes to just 15 minutes.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the toll exemption will only be for highway users entering Section 6 from the Bandar Bukit Raja Utara plaza toll to Assam Jawa plaza toll or vice versa.

Drivers entering the highway from the Section 5 Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan plaza toll will have to pay existing toll rates.

Section 6 is the latest section to be opened along the 233km highway that spans along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia from Banting, Selangor, to Taiping, Perak

Out of the total 11 sections, four sections of the WCE were already opened in 2019, with one in Selangor and three in Perak:
Section 5 (Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan – Bandar Bukut Raja Utara)
– Section 8 (Hutan Melintang – Teluk Intan)
– Section 9  (Lekir – Changkat Chermin)
– Section 10 (Changkat Chermin – Beruas)

The entire project is expected to be completed in early 2025.

The opening of the highway is expected to contribute to economic growth, especially for the local population in the small towns in Perak and Selangor

"This is evident from the opening of WCE Section 5 from Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan to Bandar Bukit Raja Utara in 2019, which is now filled with developing industrial and logistics activity centres along Section 5," said Nanta after officiating the opening of Section 6 yesterday, 20 November.

According to Bernama, an average of 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles already use the four operational sections daily.
