Selangor UMNO chief Tan Sri Noh Omar has resigned from his post, saying that he has lost faith in party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's leadership

Noh, who was not fielded as a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), joins a growing group of party leaders who are asking Zahid to step down from his position.

"As state chairman, I was not called to discuss on the matter and was dropped (from the candidate list)," he told reporters after attending UMNO's political bureau meeting this morning, 20 November.

"I was not disheartened by it, but the way it was done [showed] as if the president did not appreciate what I did for Selangor UMNO all these while."

"The president has lost his trust in me, and I have lost my trust in him," he was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.

The UMNO leader added that other high-profile party members such as Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Khairy Jamaluddin failed to capture their respective seats under Zahid's leadership

Noh asked Zahid to relinquish his position, and added that the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman had only won the parliamentary seat in Bagan Datuk with a small majority.

In yesterday's contest, Zahid won only 348 votes over his closest rival, Pakatan Harapan's (PH) Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

Noh, however, said that he is still an UMNO supreme council member and will attend the meetings as usual

According to Malay Mail, UMNO information chief Shahril Hamdan was the first to announce his resignation from the party today.

The Alor Gajah candidate for BN said he did so to take responsibility for losing the seat, and demanded Zahid to step down too.

BN won only 30 parliamentary seats in GE15, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 73 and PH won 82.
