#GE15: Johor MB Urges Zahid Hamidi To Resign As UMNO President As Soon As Possible
"A lot of UMNO, MCA, and MIC leaders who have the calibre and potential were sacrificed because we did not listen to the grassroots," said Onn Hafiz.
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Menteri Besar (MB) of Johor, has asked UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign as soon as possible
He said that efforts to rehabilitate and improve the party must begin immediately, or UMNO will be unable to win a single seat in the future, reported New Straits Times.
"Therefore, with the utmost respect, I ask that Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid resign as UMNO president as soon as possible, just as Datuk Seri Najib Razak resigned as president in 2018," said Onn Hafiz.
In a shocking turn of events, UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) won only 30 parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election (GE15), compared to 79 parliamentary seats in the previous election
Onn Hafiz claimed that a Malay political tsunami occurred during the general election, when the community rejected UMNO and the political party fell.
"UMNO and BN only managed to win nine parliamentary seats in Johor and failed to win any seats in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Penang, Melaka, Kelantan, and Terengganu," he said.
He added that now is the time for UMNO to look back and listen to what the people have to say as the election that happened yesterday, 19 November, shows how the party is no longer the people's choice.
"A lot of UMNO, MCA, and MIC leaders who have the calibre and potential were sacrificed because we did not listen to the grassroots," said Onn Hafiz.
The Johor MB also urged UMNO to take risks in order to improve the party's future.
