#GE15: Nurul Izzah Suffers Shocking Defeat At The Hands Of PAS Candidate
The PKR vice president lost her Permatang Pauh seat after receiving 32,366 votes against Ustaz Muhammad Fawwaz, who won 37,638 votes.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar has suffered a major blow by losing her Permatang Pauh seat to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Ustaz Muhammad Fawwaz Muhammad Jan
It marks the end of PKR's grip on the seat that began over three decades ago.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held the seat from 1982 to 1998, and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, held it from 1999 to 2008, when Anwar returned to parliament.
In 2015, Wan Azizah was there again and passed the baton to Nurul Izzah in 2018.
Given the past victories, Permatang Pauh was largely seen as the stronghold of Anwar's family.
It was a four-cornered fight
Apart from the PH and PN candidates, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Zaidi Said and Pejuang candidate Cikgu Nasir were contesting for the seat in this 15th General Election (GE15).
Nasir fared the worst among the four after he failed to break the four-digit mark.
The PKR vice president received 32,366 votes against Ustaz Muhammad, who won 37,638 votes.
