Prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram In Najib & Rosmah's Corruption Cases Has Been Admitted To ICU
A source dismissed that the former Federal Court judge contracted COVID-19.
Senior Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, 18 January
"Yes. He is now at the ICU," a source told New Straits Times via WhatsApp, declining to comment further.
Also citing a source, Malaysiakini reported them dismissing rumours that the 79-year-old former Federal Court judge was admitted to the hospital due to a COVID-19 infection.
"It is due to a lung infection. The numerous rumours about COVID-19 are not true," they said.
"We are concerned about his health due to his advanced age."
Gopal is the leading DPP in the 1MDB corruption case against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak
In December 2022, Najib and his lawyer failed to disqualify Gopal from being the prosecutor in the 1MDB audit tampering trial, reported The Edge Markets.
He is also the lead prosecutor in the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project corruption case involving Najib's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The 79-year-old was appointed to lead the prosecution in these cases by then-Attorney General (AG) Tommy Thomas.
Today, 19 January, Najib will appear at the Federal Court in Putrajaya for a hearing on his request to review the court's decision in his SRC corruption case, for which he is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence, reported The Star.
Both Najib and Rosmah were seen at the Federal Court with a small group of supporters gathering outside the premises this morning.
