Genting Malaysia filed a lawsuit in the US District court yesterday, 26 November against Walt Disney and 20th Century Fox for not wanting to continue with the agreement to build the Fox World theme park
Fox had entered into the agreement with Genting in 2013 to develop what would be the first functioning 20th Century Fox theme park in the world. The opening of the park, which was set to launch in 2016, was delayed several times over the years.
Reports reveal that the park was meant to open this year but the date was eventually pushed to 2019.

The Malaysian casino resort is seeking more than USD1 billion (RM4.1 billion) in damages from the mass media corporation for abandoning their contract
Bloomberg reported that the reason is because Disney does not want to be associated with a gambling business, as it finalises its acquisition of 20th Century Fox's assets.
"Unlike Fox, which was perfectly happy to have the park situated a stone's throw from the casinos of Resorts World Genting so long as it could continue to extract financial concessions," Genting said in the filed complaint.
Disney wanted to terminate the contract because the gaming business affects its "family-friendly" brand strategy.
According to Genting, several of the Fox-themed attractions at the park are almost completed – while other rides are under construction, at the cost of tens of millions of dollars.
Fox World was meant to be a key attraction replacing one of Genting Highlands' popular family-friendly attractions – its theme park
Previous reports revealed that the casino resort was investing RM400 million to build the first-of-its-kind theme park, that would feature 25 movie-based rides and attractions.
