Japan To Open Its Borders To Malaysians Without Quarantine Or Tests Required

Calling all Malaysians who've missed visiting the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan is opening its borders to all Malaysians starting 10 June 2022!

According to the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO), Malaysians will no longer be required to do on-arrival PCR tests, and quarantine once landing in Japan.

Reviewing their requirements of on-arrival COVID-19 tests and home quarantine period upon entry to Japan, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare classified countries into three zones: red zone, yellow zone, and blue zone.

In a statement on 27 May, the Kuala Lumpur office of JNTO noted, "For visitors from countries in the 'blue' list, which includes Malaysia, PCR test on arrival and quarantines will no longer be conducted from 1 June onwards."

Carrying on, the organisation noted that the number of entries in Japan will be increased from 10,000 to 20,000 starting on 1 June 2022.

Nonetheless, Malaysians will be required to pass the pre-departure PCR test, to be taken up to 72 hours before their departure to Japan, regardless of possession of a vaccination certificate, as according to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Japan is set to allow visitors from the United States, France, Spain, Canada, UK, and Malaysia among others.

According to the President of JNTO, Satoshi Seino, "JNTO is working with local government agencies and DMOs in Japan, as well as domestic and foreign affairs agencies, airlines, and other organisations to prepare for the resumption of inbound travel."

Promising to expand on their efforts with more information on tourism, Seino continued, "...We plan to roll out promotions in consideration of Japan's policy on accepting inbound tourists to Japan."
