A man in Kedah was killed in an accident on the same day he vandalised a royal palace and punched a police officer

Kedah police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat told Berita Harian that the suspect, in his 30s, was wanted by the police in connection with graffiti on the wall at Istana Anak Bukit.

He said that authorities received information regarding the incident around 3pm on Thursday, 15 July.

"The suspect fled after the incident and investigations found that he had painted the palace wall with the word 'SAMR'," he explained.

"Investigations also found that the suspect was riding a black motorcycle and the police began operations to identify the suspect," he added.

Around 5pm, the man went to the Kota Setar district police headquarters and punched a policewoman in the face

Besides that, the suspect also threw an object that is believed to be a toy gun and then proceeded to take off on his motorcycle.

"Because of the incident, the policewoman sustained injuries to her face," Kamarul Zaman explained.

Police then managed to track down the man and found him near Gurun in Sungai Petani.

Upon realising that the police were present, the man tried to escape. Officers followed the suspect and warned him to pull over but he continued to make a run for it.

"The suspect's motorcycle then skidded around Bedang, and he sustained injuries," Kamarul Zaman added.

Police then called for an ambulance and medical officials confirmed the man's death at the scene

The case is being investigated under Section 427 and 332 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 36 (1) of the Arms Act 1960.

"Further investigations are being carried out," Kamarul Zaman noted.
