Klang Valley Senior Citizens Can Walk-In For COVID-19 Vaccinations Soon

Senior citizens who have yet to get their COVID-19 jabs can walk-in to any of the COVID-19 vaccination centres (PPVs) under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) in Klang Valley
This was announced by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba in a press conference yesterday, 15 July.
He said the programme will be implemented in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur first, before being extended to other states.
"We have decided this because we noticed that there was still a number of people over the age of 60 who have not yet been vaccinated," he explained.
Dr Adham added that the Ministry of Health (MOH) has decided to allow industrial vaccination centres to operate for 24 hours in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Seremban. He said these initiatives are to ensure the vaccination process in Klang Valley could be sped up.

Since Dr Adham did not specify a date during the press conference, it was presumed that the new directive would take place immediately in Klang Valley.
However, the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (JKJAV) tweeted yesterday that they are not yet ready to put the plan into action.
A press statement clarified that this is to enable the details of the initiative to be finalised, such as logistics arrangements as well as the delivery of vaccine stock supplies at all PPVs.
It goes on to say that planning the timing of this walk-in initiative is equally important to avoid congestion in the PPVs, especially for the elderly, when the number of COVID-19 infection cases is increasing.
Senior citizens who do not have an appointment yet are urged to not go to any PPVs until more information on this initiative is announced.
As the cases in Klang Valley have soared in recent weeks, MOH is also calling for Putrajaya to ramp up the vaccination process
As of yesterday, a total of 12,647,558 people have received at least one dose of their COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr Adham said that 2,478,289 people aged 60 and above nationwide have received their first dose, while 2,988,678 senior citizens have registered for their COVID-19 jabs.
He also responded to news of Kelantan weaning out the usage of Sinovac vaccinations by saying that this will be done across all states when additional supply of the Pfizer vaccine comes to Malaysia.
Dr Adham pointed out that Putrajaya had ordered a total of 45 million doses of the Pfizer vaccines compared to 16 million Sinovac jabs.
