Those using KTM trains for their commutes will soon be able to pay their fares using Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, in addition to credit cards

This was confirmed to SoyaCincau by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) after the publication queried the operator on the addition of payment methods for its rides.

Previously, it was revealed that KTMB would begin accepting credit cards, debit cards, and QR Pay at its 57 stations nationwide, following the addition of scanners at its entry and exit gantries.

This move will provide users with significantly more cashless payment modes than before, especially considering how Touch'n'Go card payments were previously the default cashless method used by commuters.

These additions will be introduced in stages, with credit card payments to arrive soon

As is typical with the introduction of such technologies, KTMB will use a staggered approach in deploying these new cashless payment options. Already, the operator has started fitting its entry and exit points with new readers — QR code scanners and payment card readers.

Users will eventually be able to use the QR wallet code in the KTMB mobile app (available on the App Store and Google Play Store) or use their debit and credit cards to pay for their fares. It's still unclear as to when exactly cards issued by foreign banks will be accepted.

The operator also stopped short of confirming a date for when the stations would start accepting payments via Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
