Thava, aged 64, passed away on Friday, 27 August, due to complications from injuries that he sustained when he was brutally assaulted while on duty in December last year.
The unfortunate incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between the victim and a homestay guest at the condominium in Ipoh, Perak, where the victim worked.
The suspect was reportedly dissatisfied and acted violently against the victim after his child was barred from using the facility swimming pool, which was closed, following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
As a result of the altercation, Thava suffered severe head injuries and was left unconscious
He underwent several surgical procedures before he eventually passed away on 27 August.
The deceased was known by many as a friendly and kind-hearted person. He leaves behind a widow, Mrs. Philomena A/P Edward, 59 years old.

Following the incident, SOCSO reviewed the late Thava's contributions, and found that he was contributing under the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) through his employment as a security guard
Contributions made by the deceased also meet the eligibility requirements under the Employment Injury Scheme, enabling his heirs to receive benefit assistance.
The widow of the deceased is eligible to receive the following three SOCSO benefits:
1. Temporary Disablement Benefit - Paid for the duration of the deceased's sick leave (from the date of the accident until the date of death), amounting to RM12,737.32
2. Dependant's Benefit - A pension of RM1,143.90, which will be paid monthly for life
3. Funeral Benefit - Amounting to RM2,000
Temporary Disablement Benefit is a cash benefit under Act 4 of the Employment Injury Scheme, paid to the employee for the duration of his or her doctor-certified sick leave
As for Dependant's Benefit, it is a cash benefit paid to the Insured Person's dependents if the deceased passed away as a result of an occupational disaster. Examples of dependants include widows, widowers, children under the age of 21, mothers, fathers, siblings, grandfathers, or grandmothers.
Showing concern for the unfortunate incident, Human Resources Minister, YB Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, visited and personally handed over the SOCSO benefits to the widow of the deceased at her residence in Taman Buntong Ria, Ipoh
