Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today, 28 August, announced a policy requiring airlines to provide mandatory full refunds to passengers if their flight is delayed for at least five hours or more

He said that the policy change is part of amendments made to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016, which will be gazetted and enforced on 2 September, reported FMT.

According to Loke, affected passengers can take up the option of a full refund if they choose not to proceed with the delayed flight

The minister said that airlines will be required to provide refunds to passengers using the original method of payment, though they can also offer alternatives like credit shells or flight vouchers.

"Consumers will have the right to choose the mode of payment that they prefer," he said, adding that passengers can opt for a full refund if they choose to cancel their journey due to significant delays.

Additionally, all cancelled flights must be removed from booking systems, including online and offline travel agent platforms, the minister announced.
