As the search and rescue (SAR) operation for Vijaya Lakshmi, an Indian tourist who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, enters its sixth day, her grieving son is sad that he couldn't show her the tattoo he got for her

"I'm sad because my mother could not see the tattoo I got on my left hand especially for her," an inconsolable Surya was quoted as saying by Bernama at the Jalan Masjid India sinkhole site.

"[My] mother is everything to me. No matter what, I do everything for her," he said, adding that he tattooed his mother's name, Vijaya Lakshmi, on his left hand during his recent vacation to Thailand.

"But I didn't expect this to happen... I didn't have time to show [my mother] how much I loved [her].

The 26-year-old shared that the last time he spoke to his 48-year-old mother was a few hours before she was swallowed by the sinkhole

"I contacted her at 1.30am on the day of the incident and told her that I had tattooed her name…. [she] was very happy, and I could feel that joy in her voice.

"The morning before my mother fell, she had called me but my phone ran out of battery and [I] could not speak to her," Surya told the media in Tamil through a translator.

Vijaya disappeared on Friday morning, 23 August.

Surya hopes that his mother's body will be found soon, as the family intends to bury her in their hometown in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh

"It has been [six] days and we have come to a point [where we] accept her fate," he said.

Bernama reported that Surya and his father, together with several other family members, have been present at the location of the sinkhole to keep track of the latest information about the SAR.

Vijaya's relatives have been waiting for news at the accident site since Friday, 23 August.
