Loke To Discuss With KTMB About Giving Free Ride Pass To OKUs & Students
Loke has yet to decide on the date of implementation, as he is still in discussion with the management of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
Recently, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri proposed the idea of giving free transport services to people with disabilities (OKU)
In a tweet, Nancy said she had discussed with Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook about providing free rides to OKUs who use public transport such as Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and stage bus services.
"I spoke to the minister on this matter and in principle, he has agreed to the proposal," Bernama quoted her as saying on Wednesday, 18 January.
Nancy added that the OKU group is currently entitled to a 50% fare discount, however, not many are benefiting from it.
Not only for OKUs, but Loke has said that he will also try to implement free rides for students
However, he has yet to decide on the date of implementation, as he is still in discussion with the management of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) regarding the matter.
Loke had requested KTMB to optimise the subsidy provided by the government to benefit the target group that mainly uses the service
"After yesterday's meeting, I asked the operators, especially KTMB and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) on how we want to implement it," he said.
"It is for the OKU and students, including in the east coast, Klang Valley, and north areas, where we have commuters from Negeri Sembilan to Tanjung Malim, Padang Rengas to Alor Setar, and trains on the east coast."
More information will be announced after Chinese New Year, Loke added.
