Lorry Driver Dies After Hitting Vehicle Height Limit Sign & Causing It To Fall On Him

Paramedics confirmed that the stranded victim was dead at the scene.

A lorry driver died in Penang after he drove into a vehicle height limit signboard and caused it to fall on the roof of the lorry cabin that he was under

According to New Straits Times, the incident took place at Persiaran Paya Terubong 2 in Bayan Lepas yesterday afternoon, 28 September.

After the collision, the signboard fell onto the 48-year-old driver and pinned him to his seat for 20 minutes.

At 3.20pm, the Paya Terubong fire and rescue station received a distress call about the incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, operations officer Khairul Anuar Abd Rahim said they tried to extricate the victim using special rescue tools and managed to free him by 3.46pm.

"However, he was confirmed dead by paramedics who arrived at the scene," Khairul said

Kosmo! reported that paramedics from St John Ambulance were involved in the rescue operation.

Khairul said that the victim's body was later handed over to the police.

Based on the footage taken by NST Online, the signboard notes that the lane is for "light vehicles only" that are shorter than 2.6m

While the lorry cabin was believed to be lower than the height limit, the container it carried behind was taller than 2.6m.
