M'sians Can Register As Organ Donors On MySejahtera Starting 6 September
MySejahtera is launching the new feature with hopes of alleviating Malaysia's organ donor shortage.
Did you know that Malaysia is facing a critical issue in the shortage of organ donors?
According to the National Institutes of Health, there were 21,513 individuals on the waiting lists of organ recipient candidates back in January 2017, but only 71 actual donors were recorded in 2016, making the supply and demand extremely imbalanced.
Though that data was reported five years ago, the number didn't increase much as of July 2022 and Malaysia only saw 779 actual donors this year. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also confirmed in March 2022 that Malaysia has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world.
"Given that the rate of organ donation in Malaysia is one of the lowest in the world, we are trying our best to make it easier for people to register as donors," Khairy was quoted saying in a statement in March.

Now, Malaysians can register to be organ donors through MySejahtera starting tomorrow, 6 September
In an effort to encourage more Malaysians to become organ donors, Khairy announced at the closing of the Organ Donation Awareness Week recently that MySejahtera will introduce a new feature that will give updates on all things related to organ donations.
The MySejahtera application is nothing new to Malaysians and since its launch during the rise of COVID-19, it's believed that introducing the new organ donation feature will help curb the issue of shortage of organ donors.

Malaysians have the option of donating organs and tissues, such as hearts, lungs, livers, kidneys, eyes/corneas, heart valves, bones, and skins
Donors would see a digital certificate of their involvement in the application, same as how we would get a digital certificate after getting the COVID-19 vaccination.
